JAYDEN DANIELS SHOULD WIN THE HEISMAN
Jayden Daniels has been nothing short of electric all year. His stats are insane but watching him on the field has been even more jaw dropping. He’s getting it done through the air and on the ground. He’s thrown for over 3,000 yards and 30 TDs while rushing for 8 more. He’s truly having a remarkable season.
That said, he is a prisoner of being on a team with a faulty defense. His three losses are weighing heavy on the odds and votes for Heisman. He sits behind Bo Nix (the current favorite) and Michael Penix Jr. (2nd in odds right now). While both Nix and Penix are having phenomenal years; Nix has a 77% completion percentage and Penix has thrown for over 3,500 yards with over 10 yds per completion, Jayden Daniels has been more exceptional for his team than the other two. When you watch him play, you know immediately he’s different than the other guys on the field. His athletic ability shines in this offense.
The wins against Florida, Arkansas and Mizzou are in large part due to Jayden Daniels taking snaps for the Tigers. I’m a believer in Garret Nussmeier and think he will be great for LSU, but if he is the starter in those three games, they’re not 3-0 in those games. If LSU had a top 30 defense, well, the Tigers would most likely be a top 10 team but also Jayden Daniels would be the front runner for the Heisman trophy. Nix and Penix have big games coming up and both have their shot to play in an additional game than Daniels with a conference title appearances. The winner of that game very well may take home the Heisman, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the most deserving. Jayden Daniels, after 11 weeks of college football in the books, should be the Hesiman trophy winner. He’s not fully out of it but he is a long shot determined by the Vegas odds.
