FAREWELL TO THE Last Bedlam

The Oklahoma vs Oklahoma State rivalry is one of my favorite rivalries every year. Unfortunately this will be the last year (for now) we will have this rivalry with the Oklahoma Sooners moving to the SEC at the start of the 2024 season. While the series is heavily tilted towards the Sooners, boasting a record of 90-19-7 over the Cowboys, the pageantry and bitterness that is associated with this rivalry will be severely missed. Unfortunately, this is one of the repercussions of conference realignment and the Oklahoma teams will likely not be the only ones affected.

This game comes an a very intriguing point in the season for both teams. Oklahoma had a huge win over Texas in week 6 which catapulted them up the rankings board and slapped them right in the middle of the early CFP conversation. Since then, they barely escaped against a reeling UCF and lost a back and forth game to Kansas after an 18 game winning streak. Now instead of CFP conversations circling this program, the narrative has shifted to, “maybe they just got the better of Texas that day in Dallas.” I’m one who is starting to believe that as well. How does Oklahoma respond after a loss to Kansas going straight into a rivalry game?

On the flip side, Oklahoma State has looked like a completely different team since their week 3 loss to South Alabama. A 26 point loss as a touchdown favorite. Since then, they followed an immediate loss to Iowa State who has outperformed expectations, especially given the gambling allegations in that program and have beaten Kansas State, Kansas (who just beat Oklahoma), West Virginia and Cincinnati. Quarterback Alan Bowman and Running Back Ollie Gordon pair up to be a lethal combination through the air and on the ground.

With Oklahoma State surging and Oklahoma coming off a conference loss, it is set up to be a great battle for the last scheduled Bedlam. Currently, Oklahoma is 6 point road favorites over the Cowboys. Both just have one conference loss and potentially extended bragging rights to play for. The fans will be passionate and crazy. Oklahoma State would like nothing better to send off their in-state rivals with a loss as they head into the SEC. The Sooners look to get right and keep their CFP hopes and dreams alive. I anticipate this being a rugged and hard fought game and am looking forward to watching the last game of this rivalry.
